Cassandra Wolfard: Graphic Artist

I was born in London. My mother and father met at the Royal College of Music in London. My mother moved to England for her Junior year abroad from Smith college; she stayed in London for 10 years and had both my sister and I. As soon as I went to school, my mother enrolled me in piano lessons. She told me that I should learn to play because I had my father's 'piano playing' hands. I continued intensively with piano lessons, but had trouble sitting still long enough to practice...

We lived in the UK until I was about seven. The summer I was seven and a half, we packed up and moved back to the states. New York City was a huge culture shock for us. As a consolation prize for having to uproot, my mother let me take ballet classes. I auditioned all over the city, and was accepted at the Joffrey Ballet School in 1985. Dancing became my passion. I was frequently choreographing and putting on performances for my family. I created everthing from the tickets and programs, to the costumes we wore in our homemade productions. My drive and determination led to a professional dance career which began when I joined the Hartford Ballet in 1997.

After an injury forced me to leave the company, I moved back to New York to study other forms of dance and pursue my interest in fine arts. I enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2003 and there I realized my love for visual arts. Since then I've left New York to earn my Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, at the Art Institute of California-San Diego.
